Journey of Ideas – Flinders Street Station Project

Tags: ,

We wanted to create an inspirational installation which celebrated Melbourne style to be showcased in our new showroom. Well known photographer Michael Kai’s imagery is much admired so, what better than to collaborate on this project together to be launched at Saturday In Design.

Chris Simpson our Creative Director and Michael Kai browsed through Michael’s library of images to finally select this brilliant shot of the iconic Flinders Street Station.

With Chris’s expert knowledge of glass mosaic tiles he has selected a grey scale using four shades of grey to transform this image into a sultry night scene and a breathtaking wall piece of some 5.6 metres in length.

The image was projected onto the proposed wall area to enable us to evaluate the visual impact , the scale of the design and to make minor adjustments to ensure the best outcome would be achieved.

Can you believe that approximately 100,000 individual handcrafted 15mm glass tiles will be used to bring this dazzling imagery to realisation. Our specialist skilled artisans will use their talents to work with the four grey tones that Chris selected to recreate this Melbourne icon.
How do you create such a large installation and install it? To facilitate the process and make it easy to transport and handle the work has been developed in sections that will be installed and finished on site .

The result is sure to be spectacular!  Stay up to date with the Flinders St Station project here on our Journal as well as Facebook, Twitter and  Pinterest.
